You'll find me by the window

HardyGirl is quite a nature lover. I have a window seat next to my bedroom window so the cats can look out over the street from the third floor.  It has quickly become her domain.  I will wake up in the middle of the night and see her sleeping on the seat.  It makes her happy.

A couple of people have asked if I'm keeping her.  The answer is that she's got a home until her real home comes along. As much as I love HG, and I do, she's not my cat.  It's hard to explain but I know her people are out there and I'm not it.  She is everything anyone could want in a pet.  Funny, sweet, smart, no trouble, mischevious, all those things and more.  I suspect she would be great with kids and dogs and eventually other cats.  She and my cat have reached something of a truce although I did have to wake up at 3am to stop them fighting over a Bic pen cap. There are 50 toys around the house but that's the coveted item right now.

Contact me if you know anyone who might be interested in this sweet girl.   She's wonderful.

Peek-a-boo!

HardyGirl seems to like peeking out from behind things.  The top photo is one from a Washington Humane Society photo shoot for fosters.  She immediate ran behind the backdrop and peeped around the side.

HardyGirl is pretty funny now that she's settling in.  In this picture, she climbed behind my chair onto a storage box and just sat there for awhile, reading over my shoulder.  Not sure what she was looking for but it made her happy.

One thing I've just realized I was wrong about.  The shelter said she really didn't get along with other cats.  After about a month here, I realized that she must have been super-stressed at the shelter.  HG has very little problem with my cat.  There's a little hissing but other than that, they pretty much ignore each other.  I'll even admit that my cat, Sassafras, is the instigator most of the time.  If HG was around a calmer cat, I think she would not be fussed at all.

So, if you're looking for a second cat, let me know!  HG would be good as an only kitty or as a second companion.

HG also loves toys.  I'll have to try to get video of her playing.

Cat naps are the best

Rawr! I am a ferocious predator!

Okay, really I am just a sleepy kitty.

I love naps.  I find them one of life's great joys, especially as an adult.  Curling up in a cool room and relaxing on a lazy Saturday is the best.  Add a sleepy kitty to the mix and it's heaven.  That's the kind of Saturday I had this week.  I took a nap and HardyGirl climbed into bed with me.  She found her perfect spot at the foot of the bed and we napped for a couple of hours.  She looked like she didn't have any bones she was so relaxed.  It made me happy.  This is the kind of luxury she didn't get in a cage at the shelter.  It's the kind of luxury she deserves.

Please leave a comment if you are at all interested in learning more about her.  She really is a darling.

HG has excellent manners.

You can't always count on your pets to behave nicely.  That's putting it mildly.  They do their own thing, they don't care if you have guests and they have very little shame.  I will say, though, that HG has excellent manners.

She loves to be petted.  She's happiest when I'mjust sitting next to her giving her pets and talking to her.  HardyGirl purrs audibly when she's getting attention.  If I stop, she very politely takes her paw and taps my arm or leg as if to say, "Pardon me, miss?  Please keep petting the cat."  It's very funny. She's very gentle and doesn't use her claws.  It's just a very light tap to make sure I know the cat needs more love.

I wish I could say that HG and my cat have stopped hissing under the door at each other but that would be a lie.  I'm almost convinced that they enjoy it.  They bat at each others' paws, hiss and then repeat until they're tired.

HardyGirl will be so happy when she gets her forever person.

You can adopt HardyGirl!

Adopting HardyGirl is easy.  Why wouldn't you want such a wonderful, loving companion?  I am fostering her through the Washington Humane Society.  If you're interested, leave me a comment here.  We can set up a meeting for you to see Hardy, get to know her and find out first-hand how great she is.  The adoption fee is $85, if the shelter isn't running any specials.  (They frequently are.)  With that, you get a healthy, spayed cat that's up-to-date on shots, a month of pet insurance (a great idea for any pet), and a companion who will be thrilled to see you when you walk through the door every night.

If you're wondering why i can't keep her, here's why.  I have a cat who is happy being an only cat.  HG would also be happier as an only cat.  She's just staying here until she finds her forever home, the place where she will be loved and cherished and where she will adore her people.  It's simple.  She deserves the best home out there. I can't say enough how wonderful this girl is.  I'd recommend her to anyone who needs a great pet.

I suspect she would be good with dogs, even though she's not fond of other cats. At an adoption event, she was not at all bothered by all the dogs around.

Leave me a message if you want to know more.  Keep reading, too, I've got lots of information on this lovely girl.

HardyGirl is an excellent companion.  Right now, she is living in my bathroom at night and in my bedroom during the day.  She and my cat are not keen on sharing a living space so this is a good compromise.  HG is an excellent houseguest.  She goes to bed quietly with no yelling.  She always uses the litter box and is very tidy about making sure her box area is clean.  She has never scratched the rugs, the furniture or me, all things I wish my cat would pick up from her by osmosis.  She loves head pats, scritches, rubs and any sort of attention.  HG is also a big fan of cuddling during naps.  What more could you ask for from a pet?  She's old enough to be a calm friend and not climb the curtains and young enough to want to play.

Adopt HardyGirl

HardyGirl

HardyGirl is sleeping over at my house for a little while until she finds her permanent home.  That shouldn't take too long because she is a perfect companion for someone who needs a sweet, loving, well-mannered roommate to love.

HardyGirl is about 3 years old and ended up at the Washington Humane Society after following a nice lady to her car.  The lady didn't want her to end up in some unfortunate accident so she kindly gave HardyGirl a ride to WHS.

Here's where the plan hits a snag.  HardyGirl is not a fan of other cats so she had to live in a cage at WHS instead of KittyCity, the open room for friendly, adoptable cats.  It just so happened that WHS was swamped with cats and not many adoptions so they sent out a plea for foster parents, anyone who could do anything to help them out.  I adopted my girl from them a year ago so I spontaneously agreed to foster, to return the favor for helping me find my perfect companion.  No kittens for me, though.  I needed a healthy adult who'd been tested for anything my cat could get and who already understood the use of a litter box.

No problem!  I showed up and was told they had the perfect cat for me.  The name on the cage was Hardy, which led to many questions about whether I was getting a boy or girl.  After some checking by the staff, I was told, "It's a girl!"  I promptly changed her name to HardyGirl to end the confusion.  Her new family can change her name to anything they want.  This is just a place holder.
